These types of conversations are never fun, but the more planning you put into the meeting, the more likely an effective result will take place. We go through the many purposes you may have for holding this conversation, as well as, the  4 step process to plan. Finally, I make the analogy that removing a band-aid, in all it's own glory, is similar to holding a difficult conversation.
